Off I go on a Google journey! Thanks for your comments Robin. Just out of interest, I wonder how much poetry study is included in current PGCE courses and other educational degrees. I don't think I know any English teachers personally so I'd be interested to know. A personal passion and curiosity for poetry is ideal but I'd settle for even a sprinkling of awareness - set the interested student off on their own journey, bring in others who do have a passion. I'd love to hear about clever ways it's being dragged into the curriculum. I saw some stories about authors coming into Primary Schools but not a great deal at Secondary level. I live in hope.

It's very sad that GCSE poetry is all about counting metaphors, but like music, poetry has been gradually sidelined over the years, and if the teachers don't read poetry, how can they be expected to ignite a passion for it in the hearts of their pupils?
If you're just getting into the poetry world I can recommend investigating the hundreds of contemporary poetry magazines out there (paper and online). There is some wonderful poetry being written right now and it's there for the reading. Have fun on your poetic journey.
